Craig’s Friday Countdown - Things We Learn

Craig’s Friday Countdown - Things We Learn

Today’s countdown comes from Budget Management Analyst Mallory Merritt.  My most grievous error this year (that’s a good - daily - countdown category) was not ensuring her office was included in the “Still Lifes” countdown.  No matter, in typical Mallory fashion (see what I did there?) she was kind enough to share a note on what she has learned from me since joining the team.  Here it is, unedited:

10)  When e-mailing yor boss (or your boss’s boss) a PDF, always attach the original Word / PPT file.

9)  Tell the truth, and then you don’t have to worry about remembering what you said.

8)  Don’t write dumb things in e-mails.

7)  Treat everyone with respect.

6)  In the early years of your career, work as many hours as you can.

5)  Don’t golf with your colleagues.  Maintain professional relationships.

4)  Be transparent.

3)  Put kids first.  They’re the future.

2)  Keep flowers in your office.  They tend to make people smile (and want to dress up like a beekeeper).

1)  Always think of opportunities you can create for others.

I could leave it there, but I won’t.  The truth is I learned at least as much from Mallory as she learned from me.  Time is short and the packing tape is waiting, so I’ll edit it all down to the unyielding power of being kind, and positive, and caring.

There’s so much I’ve learned from so many here, that it’ll take quite a while to even understand it.  When I have a bit more time, perhaps the countdown will carry on in some other corner of the interweb…

Best wishes, all.
