Craig’s Friday Countdown - Top 16 Jazz / SS

Craig’s Friday Countdown - Top 16 Jazz / SS

Following up from last week’s 2016 Rock / Alt iPod additions, here’s the favorite 16 jazz / singer-songwriter adds.  Not ranked (except 1 / 2) because I just don’t think that’s fair (or even possible) in the genres.

Carry On:  Norah Jones

Rolling:  Manu Katche

Lydia:  Dejohnette, Garrison & Coltrane (the younger)

No Room For Squares:  Hank Mobley

Recordame:  Joe Henderson

It Means I Love You:  Jessy Lanza – Technically, EDM (but jazzy)

All The Pieces:  Jonathan Finlayson

Over The Rainbow:  Keith Jarrett

Mutineer: Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires – Jason needs Amanda’s help this year to make a list.

Family Tree:  Gregory Privat

Smooth Sailing:  Leon Bridges – Technically, R & B?

Round Midnight:  Thelonius Monk

The Most Important Thing:  The Hold Steady – Here’s my take; The Hold Steady is not quite aware they are a jazz band.

Food Court Drifter: Steve Fidyk

2.  Come Fly With Me:  Frank Sinatra – Since I’m an incredible dork, I found myself singing / humming this quite a bit while walking through airports in 2016.  TSA can't crush my groove.

1.  My Kind of Town (reprise): Frank Sinatra & Count Basie at the Sands – Bummer I missed this concert.  Then again, I was only three years old.  Is there a better end to a jazz singer record?  If you’re Northside Chicago born and raised, the answer is most definitely no, this year.
