Harbingers

Harbingers

Two sure harbingers of winter are swapping the Jeep’s soft top for the hard top and making a pass through Snowstar’s pre-season equipment swap.  Colin scores the coolest skis at the swap, that somehow also have the lowest price - $20.  They’re vintage Super G skis.  Long metallic gold beauties, with period graphics and vice-like bindings; they are completely ridiculous for free-style skiing, and thus irresistible.  I ask him if he is going to grow a mustache to match his 1970s skis.

As we pick up our passes for the season, we’re asked if we want to update our picture on the armband pass.  Colin goes with a new picture.  I stick with last year’s.  After we take the lap through the equipment swap, we return to the building to pick up our passes.  Colin gets his new picture and observes that he gets better looking every year, while I go in the opposite direction.  I burst out laughing.  Like any good joke, it’s brutally true.
